My MBP sometimes drops its internet connection

The WiFi connection is good. It just loses the internet connection.
The first time I thought it was the internet connection itself, but I
just checked and it was still up on my mini and my wife's MBP. Might
this be a developing hardware failure? How would I know and what can I
do about it? This has happened about once in each of the last few days.

How does your WiFi get access to the internet? I have a similar problem
with a Verizon USB Cellular modem connected to a Cradlepoint WiFi router.

In most cases, my loss of internet connection is temporary. If I
checked on a different computer, it might also have the problem but the
connection could have returned by the time I checked.

In my case, the USB modem does not appear to have lost connection to
the Cell tower. The problem is worse when the Cellular system would be
busiest, and rarely happens during off-hours. In another city it
happens less frequently.

I talked to Verizon once about it when it caused my bill to skyrocket.
They denied it was happening, but would "check into it". There has been
no subsequent improvement.

How does your WiFi get access to the internet?

Verizon FIOS. I have a Verizon device which combines a modem with a
wired and wireless router. It appears the modem is always connected to
the internet but about once a day my computer keeps the WiFi connection
but loses the internet connection. After a brief period it gets it
back. As near as I can tell, my mini and my wife's MBP never lose the
connection, which makes me suspect my MBP.
