Can any 2.5" SATA drive be used in a 13.3" MacBook Pro?

Can one buy any new 2.5": SATA drive (e.g., HDD or SSD) to replace in a
13.3" MacBook Pro ((9,2/MD102ll/A)? Or are there specific requirements?

almost any. what matters is how thick it is.

Generally yes. With 3rd party SSD, you can now use the line command
"trimforce" to make it on-par with Apple drives.

If you buy the disk from a good on-line store that gives you a choice of
drive after you have selected which computer you have, it gives you a
bit more confidence that the drive will be compatible. (or if you buy
from an outfit that sells Apple specific upgrades).



Note that the year of your macbook (not screen size) is what matters
more. There *may* be controller limitations on older maxiches that
limit maximum disk capacity, although I am not sure this is an issue
with laptop drives (yet).

There is no need to do that, and it can cause corruption, as you have been
told repeatedly. You are obsessed with TRIM.

That is an astonishingly stupid thing to do in nearly all cases. In some
cases it will destroy your SSD in a few months. You should never do this
unless the drive manufacturer *specifically* say to.

And while many drives will not have a problem with TRIM, very few modern
drives need it.

There are some 2.5" drives that will not fit, but they are very rare and
they might not exist at all in the SATA drives (older 2.5" drives were
thicker, but it is quite possible they were only PATA/IDE drives).

Any new 2.5" drive will fit.
