Discussion:
Never 100% fully charged on a 13.3" MacBook Pro?

Hello.

How come the 13.3" MacBook Pro, with its updated Mac OS X v10.8.5,
never shows its battery 100% fully charged? Right now, it is at 97% and
charged. Does it need to be drained to 0% and then fully recharged to
make it 100%?

Thank you in advance. :)

Quote of the Week: "Ever watch ants just crawling around? They walk in
that single straight line, a long, a long, long mile of ants. Sometimes
they will walk over and pick up their dead friends and carry those
around. I'm pretty sure it's because they can get in the carpool lane
and pass up that line." --Ellen DeGeneres

I love your tecknikal responses.

In the About This Mac report, under battery, it might says something
like "battery needs servicing" and means the OP should get a new one. He
can get one for $20-30. He should check and make sure it's not "swollen."

You might want to try out the Battery Health Monitor app.

he didn't say it was swollen or that it needed servicing.

it's something he can check but chances are that it's not applicable.

he said it stops at 97% and that's normal. charging switches to trickle
charge at 95% and may not always reach 100%. one way around it is drain
it to 94% or lower and put it back on the charger. a better way is not
worry about it at all.

Yeah, https://discussions.apple.com/message/28376371#28376371 showed me
https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT204054 that said:

"My battery will not charge to 100%

Occasionally, the battery may not show a full charge (100%) in OS X,
even after the power adapter has been connected for an extended period
of time. The battery may appear to stop charging between 93 percent and
99 percent. This behavior is normal and will help to prolong the overall
life of the battery..."

Since it is by design, I am not going to worry about it then. Thanks all! :)

Our iBook battery charges to "100%", but about 30 seconds of being
unplugged from the wall socket that drops to "1%", and then about a
minute later the iBook shuts down.

do a PMU reset:

Remove battery hold power button 10 sec

For unibody PMU reset:

plug into power adapter
shift-ctrl-opt tap power, wait 5 sec, power to restart
